Simone Green, Yachting Australia, Thursday, 27 January 2005 Yachting Australia, the organisation responsible for the administration of the IRC in Australia, is conducting an IRC Measurement Seminar on Saturday 12 February 2005.
The seminar will be conducted by James Dadd, Chief Measurer from the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) Rating Office in the UK. The aim is to help educate current and potential IRC measurers on international standards and best practice procedures for IRC measurement within Australia. Attendees at the Seminar will discuss the latest techniques used to measure boats for IRC, discuss minimum requirements for measurement in Australia, gain measurers tips measurement and discuss current practices used across all states.
'This Seminar is particularly important in this country where IRC is not a self measured rule,' said Phil Jones, CEO of Yachting Australia.
'Yacht owners must have their boats measured by an accredited IRC measurer to obtain their initial rating. We are organising the Seminar to ensure consistency throughout Australia, ensure what we do is consistent with world best practice and to endeavour to increase the number of accredited measurers in each state. With IRC increasing in popularity in Australia, it is important that we maintain standards and are in position to meet the demand,' Jones said.
