Membership fees - Yachting NSW’s position on individuals who are members of multiple clubs.

Like most other sporting organisations, the members of YNSW are clubs, not individuals. YNSW levies its members, the clubs, an affiliation fee. For some years now, YNSW, and all the other states, have been reviewing their fee structures in an effort to simplify the structure and make it more equitable. After consultation with a large number of clubs, discussion and debate with the Board and Member Advisory Council, and, following a Special General Meeting to vote on the required amendments to the Constitution, YNSW adopted a flat fee structure for club affiliation fees. Club Affiliation fees are now based on the total membership of the club. It is not in any way related to who the members of that club are nor what the club charges them for club membership. The key points of the new fee structure include:

  • The new flat fee structure for clubs affiliation with Yachting NSW are fees for the clubs- not individuals
  • The model is based on the number of members, not who the clubs’ members are, and uses a multiplier to calculate the applicable affiliation fee.
  • Clubs set their own club membership fees based on whatever criteria they choose.
  • There is no longer a YA Silver Card Fee. As a member of a club affiliated with YNSW you are entitled to a YA Silver Card.

Clubs have different models for club membership. How your club calculates your membership fees is a question for your club.

In previous years when there was a separate YA Silver Card Fee, a card holder could nominate the club at which this fee was collected on behalf of YNSW. As there is no longer a YA Silver Card Fee, there is no longer a requirement to nominate a club for this purpose. Clubs no longer collect the YA Silver Card fee. Consequently, regardless of the number of clubs to which you belong, you are not charged for a YA Silver Card.

Note: There are some clubs who due to exceptional circumstances, have been allowed to adopt an alternative fee structure for a limited period of time. These clubs cannot issue YA Silver Cards to their members as part of their club membership. They can have them issued as a separate exercise. You should check with your club to ensure that you receive a YA Silver Card. It is a requirement of the Racing Rules that all participants, skippers and crew, have a YA Silver Card.
